COBIAX TECHNOLOGY IN THE GREEK MARKET

ENKA TECHNOLOGIES has been introducing COBIAX technology for lightweight and thick concrete slabs to the Greek market for the last 7 years.

Based on its advantages compared to other concrete slab construction methods (https://enkatechnologies.com.gr/technologies/cobiax/), COBIAX technology has already managed to establish itself in the Greek market and the first building project (https://enkatechnologies.com.gr/en/%CF%84he-first-building-complex-with-cobiax-slabs-in-greece/), was followed by several other small, medium and large scale projects (COBIAX technology in the largest office building complex under construction in Athens – ENKA Technologies) that have already been completed or are under construction. In addition, a significant number of projects are expected to start within the next two years.

COBIAX technology in the largest office building complex under construction in Athens

COBIAX technology was applied to the project “THE GRID – Office Complex” in Marousi, with a total area of ​​61,500 m2, expected LEED Platinum certification. The project concerns four (4) buildings and extends over three (3) underground and five (5) above-ground levels. In order to achieve the required dead load reduction and thus the construction of flat slabs, COBIAX concrete slabs were designed and constructed on four (4) above-ground levels. The total application area was approximately 5,000 m2 and concerned concrete slabs of 25 cm thickness to which the COBIAX CLS-P-130 type was applied.

Τhe first building complex with COBIAX slabs in Greece

COBIAX finally in Greece! In December 2019, COBIAX lightweight concrete slabs were introduced in the greek market.

COBIAX slabs were placed in a complex of three statically independent buildings under construction in Varko District in the Municipality of Aktio – Vonitsa, in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania. The buildings will be used as seaside villas.

When designing the building complex, one of the main goals of the engineering team was the maximum possible reduction of the slab weight and the slab height and the maximum possible increase of the span lengths. So using COBIAX slab was the best solution both compared to the relevant solid slabs and to slabs with girders (zoellner and sandwich type) which are widely used in Greece.

Three different types of the COBIAX SL were used in order to achieve three different slab thicknesses. More specifically, SL 120-140 was used for slabs of 25 cm thickness, SL 180-200 was used for slabs of 30 cm thickness, and SL 220-240 was used for slabs of 35 cm thickness.

The assembly of the semi-shells and their placement in the steel cages was done in the construction site using a wooden working mold.

A structural engineer of ENKA TECHNOLOGIES (representative of COBIAX in Greece) was in the construction site to oversee the correct assembly of the voidformer semi-shells and their installation in the formwork.

The whole process (assembly of the COBIAX voidformers, installation in the formwork, concrete purring) was easily executed, and the builder found it much easier than the slabs with girders (zoellner and sandwich type).

Presentation at the Professional Exhibition “BUILD EXPO 2019”

ENKA TECHNOLOGIES presented COBIAX Technology at the Professional Building Exhibition “BUILD EXPO 2019” held from October 18 to October 20 at Metropolitan Expo in Athens.

A large number of professionals (architects, structural engineers, constructors, investors etc.) attended ENKA TECHNOLOGIES trade booth in order to discuss with the company’s engineers as well as to observe two exhibition samples of COBIAX slab systems.

Many technical issues and questions were addressed to ENKA TECHNOLOGIES engineers. From the answers given and the discussion that took place, it was possible to demonstrate the advantages of COBIAX slab system both in relation to solid slabs and to slabs with girders (zoellner and “sandwich” type).

Mount Kangchenjunga The First Greek Expedition 2018

Our company ENKA SA was a proud supported of the first Greek expedition on an attempt to climb on the peak of mountain Kangchenjunga, named “Mount Kangchenjunga: The First Greek Expedition 2018”. The members of the Greek squad were Antonis Sykaris and Fotis Theocharis.

The two Greek climbers departed for their great endeavor on April 5th and on May 20th they became the first Greeks to conquer the 3rd highest peak of the world on an altitude of 8.586m. The peak of mountain Kangchenjunga on the Himalayas is just 300m lower than Everest but much more difficult and dangerous to climb. Since the 90s and despite the improved climbing gear, more than 20% of the climbers who tried to conquer the peak of mountain Kangchenjunga lost their lives. Moreover, all the attempts from other climbers in 2015, 2016 and 2017 failed.

The World Standard In Concrete Waterproofing By Crystallization

The Shard, with its church steeple and cladded shards of glass, is the inspiration and design of Renzo Piano, the project’s architect. At 95-storeys and standing 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high, The Shard (‘Shard of Glass’) is the tallest building in the UK – a top-down construction project that required the largest continuous concrete pour in UK history; three concrete pumps placed 700 truckloads over 36 hours; a total of 5,500 m. While the extremely thick basement slab did not require waterproofing, Xypex Admix was used to waterproof and protect other areas of the basement as well as the capping beams and lift pits on various floors. Xypex was also used to waterproof the Shangri-La Hotel swimming pool and spa area on the 52nd floor. In all, approximately 7,500 kg of Xypex material was used to treat 1,500 m of concrete.

The Applicator Certification was awarded to ENKA by XYPEX CE, the licensed manufacturer of XYPEX products and exclusive distributor of the Canadian firm XYPEX Chemical Corporation in Central and Eastern Europe.

XYPEX technical know-how is going back more than 45 years in concrete waterproofing and protection by using crystalline technology. ChemCo Systems Certified Applicator

ENKA is the only Certified Applicator of ChemCo Systems (www.chemcosystems.com) in Greece & Cyprus. The Applicator Certification was awarded to ENKA by the German CSE Distribution GmbH (www.csedistribution.de). CSE is the exclusive distributor of the US firm ChemCo Systems Inc in Europe.

ChemCo Systems expertise is going back more than 50 years in concrete injection and crack repairs with most probably the widest selection of premium epoxy resins. Unlike others, the current products of ChemCo Systems have been in use for decades demonstrating their quality and persistence in real life applications beyond all laboratory conditions. Seminar in Chalcis

President of ENKA, Mr Michael Karantzikis, was invited to give a lecture at the technical seminar titled “Investigation, Protection and Strengthening of Concrete Structures” organized by the Civil Engineers Association of Evvoia under the auspice of the Technical Chamber of Evvoia, that took place in Chalcis on 28/11/2015. His lecture about “Rehabilitation, Protection and Strengthening of less durable structures using Composite Systems” attracted the interest of the numerous structural engineers who attended the seminar.
